With the rapid development of mobile phone, electronics and communication industries, the PCB circuit board industry has been continuously expanding and growing rapidly. People have increasingly higher requirements for the layer count, weight, precision, materials, color and reliability of components.
However, due to fierce market price competition and rising PCB material costs, more and more manufacturers seek to monopolize the market with low prices to improve competitiveness. Yet these ultra-low prices are achieved by cutting material and manufacturing costs. Such PCBs are prone to cracks, scratches or abrasions, and their precision, performance and other comprehensive indicators fail to meet standards, which seriously affects the solderability and reliability of end products.
Faced with a wide variety of PCB circuit boards on the market, their quality can be judged from two aspects: one is appearance inspection, and the other is compliance with PCB quality specifications.
Methods for Judging PCB Quality
1. Judging PCB Quality by Appearance
Generally, the appearance of PCB circuit boards can be analyzed and judged from three aspects:
- Standard rules for size and thickness.
The size and thickness of circuit boards vary with standards. Customers can measure and inspect them according to the thickness and specifications of their own products.
- Gloss and color.
External circuit boards are covered with ink, which provides insulation for the board. If the board has dull color and insufficient ink coverage, the board quality is poor.
- Solder joint appearance.
Circuit boards are equipped with many components. Poor soldering will lead to component detachment, which seriously affects the soldering quality of the circuit board. Good appearance, careful identification and strong interface bonding are very important.
2. Requirements for High-Quality PCB Circuit Boards
- The equipment shall work properly after component mounting, that is, the electrical connections shall meet requirements;
- The line width, line thickness and line spacing of the circuit shall meet requirements to avoid overheating, open circuit and short circuit;
- The copper foil shall not easily peel off at high temperatures;
- The copper surface shall resist oxidation, as oxidation will slow down mounting speed and shorten the service life;
- No additional electromagnetic radiation;
- No appearance deformation, so as to avoid housing deformation and screw hole misalignment after mounting. Automated assembly is widely used nowadays, so the deformation errors of hole positions and circuits of the circuit board compared with the design shall be within the allowable range;
- Resistance to high temperature, high humidity and special environments shall be considered;
- The surface mechanical properties shall meet mounting requirements;
The above are the methods for judging the quality of PCB circuit boards. Be sure to carefully select PCB circuit boards during procurement.
