1. Overview of Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 High-Frequency Teflon PCB

Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 is a high-performance high-frequency Teflon PCB material, composed of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) reinforced with glass fibers. The glass microfibers in the board are randomly distributed within the material, which greatly ensures the strength requirements of the circuit board in both circuit applications and production processes. To meet the increasingly stringent requirements of high-frequency circuit design for PCBs, Rogers has launched this new generation of high-frequency laminate, which stands out among similar materials with its excellent electrical and mechanical properties.
Similar to RT/Duroid 5870, RT/Duroid 5880 laminates possess outstanding comprehensive performance, including the lowest dielectric loss, low moisture absorption, isotropy, and minimal changes in electrical properties with frequency, making them suitable for a wide range of high-frequency and high-precision applications.

2. Core Advantages of Rogers RT5880

Rogers RT5880 boasts remarkable performance advantages, especially in high-frequency scenarios, with the following key highlights:
  • Very low dielectric constant (DK): Measured at 10GHz in accordance with the IPC-TM 2.5.5.5 standard, the DK value is 2.20±0.02, which is the lowest among materials of the same type, laying a solid foundation for low signal dispersion.
  • Extremely low dielectric loss (DF): Also measured at 10GHz under the IPC-TM 2.5.5.5 standard, the dielectric loss factor is only 0.0009, making it highly suitable for high-frequency and wide-band applications that require minimal dispersion and signal loss.
  • High frequency support: It can support application signal frequencies up to the Ku band or even higher, adapting to the high-frequency development needs of modern electronic equipment.
  • Ultra-low moisture absorption: The moisture absorption rate is as low as 0.02%, effectively avoiding performance degradation caused by moisture, making it an ideal choice for applications in high-humidity environments.
  • Lead-free process compliance: It meets lead-free process standards, conforming to the environmental protection requirements of modern electronic product manufacturing.

3. Processing Performance of Rogers RT/Duroid 5880

RT/Duroid 5880 has excellent processability, which can well meet the manufacturing needs of high-frequency PCBs: it can be easily cut into the desired shape, perfectly adapting to the requirements of various cavity structures on PCB shapes in high-frequency applications. In addition, it can resist the corrosion of all solutions and reagents used in the etching and plated through-hole processes, and can withstand the tests of various high and low temperature processing processes, ensuring stable processing quality.
As a high-frequency laminate, RT/Duroid 5880 supports electrodeposited copper with a thickness of 8~70UM, providing flexible options for different circuit design requirements.

4. Application Fields of Rogers RT5880

Leveraging its excellent electrical performance, stable mechanical properties, and good processability, Rogers RT5880 is widely applied in high-end high-frequency fields, including:
  • Commercial aviation telephone circuits
  • Microstrip and strip circuits
  • Millimeter wave applications
  • Military radar PCB systems
  • Missile guidance systems
  • Point-to-point digital radio antennas
