Aluminum based PCB is a typical metal base circuit board with excellent thermal dissipation performance. The conventional single-sided structure is composed of three laminated layers: patterned copper foil circuit layer, intermediate insulating medium layer and metal base layer. This substrate is highly prevalent in LED lighting applications. It adopts dual-side differentiated design: the white coated surface is reserved for LED pin soldering, and the reverse side retains natural aluminum metal texture. In practical assembly, thermal grease is applied on the aluminum base to closely connect with heat dissipation structures and realize efficient heat transfer. In addition, ceramic substrate PCB is also available as a high-performance alternative for high-temperature working conditions.
LED-specific aluminum substrate is a customized printed circuit board with aluminum alloy as the base material. Traditional general electronic circuit boards mainly adopt glass fiber substrates. Given the high heat output of LED chips, aluminum substrates become the preferred solution for lamp products due to fast thermal conduction, while glass fiber boards are still widely used in ordinary electronic and electrical equipment.

Operating Principle of Aluminum Based PCB

Power components are mounted on the surface circuit layer. When electronic devices operate continuously, the heat generated by core components is quickly transmitted to the metal base through the insulating layer. Relying on the high thermal conductivity of the aluminum base, heat is evenly diffused and exported, so as to realize continuous cooling and stable heat dissipation for components.

Compared with traditional FR-4 substrates, aluminum based PCB greatly reduces thermal resistance and achieves outstanding thermal conductivity. In contrast to thick-film ceramic circuits, it delivers more reliable mechanical properties and structural toughness.
