  • Description

  • Data Sheet

Vehicle dashboard configurations vary by vehicle model, while mainstream passenger cars are universally equipped with core gauges including speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure indicator, coolant temperature gauge, fuel level gauge and charging status meter. Modern automotive instruments are integrated with dedicated voltage regulators to stabilize input power, suppress voltage fluctuation, and ensure long-term detection accuracy and stable display performance.
Most instrument data is collected via on-board sensors. Sensing components dynamically adjust resistance values according to real-time operating status of monitored parts, and convert physical parameters into recognizable electrical signals for unified analysis and display. As the most intuitive module on the dashboard, the speedometer adopts km/h as the standard measurement unit, and integrates dual functions of real-time speed feedback and cumulative odometer recording.

Evolution of Automotive Instrument Technology

Based on working principles and technical iteration, automotive instruments are divided into three generations:
  • First-generation: Pure mechanical movement instruments with single display function;
  • Second-generation: Electronic analog instruments with optimized circuit integration;
  • Third-generation: Fully digital smart instruments, featuring network interconnection, intelligent interaction, richer display content and simplified vehicle wiring harness design.
Current mass-produced vehicles are mainly equipped with third-generation digital instruments. This solution supports pointer driving through stepper motors, and is also compatible with high-definition LCD screens to realize graphics, characters and digital visual display. Built-in intelligent processing units can complete real-time data interaction and information synchronization with other vehicle control modules.

Optoelectronic Display & Functional Upgrade

Automotive optoelectronic display instruments realize comprehensive vehicle condition monitoring. Traditional instruments only support 3~4 data items and 4~5 early warning functions, while upgraded new-generation instruments expand to 15 types of parameter display and nearly 40 sets of fault monitoring and alarm mechanisms.

Main Data Acquisition Modes

  1. Signal transmission via vehicle body bus
  2. Analog-to-digital conversion through A/D sampling
  3. Status signal acquisition by IO port detection

Common Display Forms

  • Stepper motor driving pointer rotation for analog meter indication
  • Dot-matrix LCD for graphics and character information output
  • Segment LCD and digital tube for fixed parameter display
  • LED indicator lights for status prompt and fault reminder
  • Buzzer sound feedback for multi-level alarm warning

Hardware System Architecture

The automotive instrument panel adopts a highly integrated hardware design, consisting of MCU main control system, stepper motor drive circuit, LED indicator module, LCD display unit, alarm control circuit, data storage unit, key processing circuit, LIN bus communication, low-speed fault-tolerant CAN bus interface and dedicated power supply module.
