PCB Inductive Coil

Electricity and magnetism are mutually inductive and interdependent, existing synchronously in electromagnetic phenomena. When a steady direct current (DC) passes through a conductor, a steady magnetic field is consistently induced around the conductor. When the conductor is formed into an inductive coil, it can be determined based on the electromagnetic induction principle that a magnetic field is present within the inductive coil. When the inductive coil is integrated into a current loop, any variation in the DC current of the circuit (e.g., from low to high or vice versa) will cause a corresponding change in the magnetic field inside the inductor. This varying magnetic field will induce an induced current in the coil. In accordance with the electromagnetic induction law, the direction of this induced current must be opposite to that of the original DC current, thereby exhibiting a certain impedance to the change of DC current in a short period. However, once the current stabilizes after the variation is completed, the magnetic field will no longer change, and the impedance effect will cease to exist.

Magnetic Coil (Traditional Implementation)

When a traditional PCB requires magnetic flux/inductance functionality, the conventional approach is to design wiring patterns, pads, and component solder pads on the PCB, followed by soldering discrete coil components. Even for applications requiring small magnetic flux/inductance values, the discrete coil components tend to have a relatively large volume, occupying a large soldering area and board space on the circuit board. This is not conducive to product miniaturization and microminiaturization. Additionally, since the discrete components protrude above the PCB surface, they are prone to damage due to impact and deformation during handling or operation.

Magnetic Coil PCB

Magnetic coil PCB refers to a printed circuit board that uses windings as the main circuit pattern and adopts etched circuits instead of traditional copper wire turns. It is mainly applied in inductive components and possesses a series of advantages including high precision, excellent linearity, and a simple structure, which effectively addresses the limitations of traditional discrete coil assembly on PCBs.
